About "American Musical Supply" Answer

What is your guitar buyingexperience with AmericanMusical Supply?
i want to buy a bass from them but i haven't heard from this site like how musiciansfriend is very popular. Do you really get really fast shipping if you live in the San Francisco bay area? what was your experience with them
Ive dealt with American Musical Supply now for over 2 years, and have yet to have a problem. One time there was a mix up on an order, where I received someone elses. The shipper inside the box confirmed that, yet, the box was addressed to me! I notified A.M.S., and they also figured that my order was sent to where the one I recieved was supposed to go. They told me they would send a prepaid shipper to me, and then to attach that to the wrong order I had received and drop it at U.P.S. 2 days later, my CORRECT order was received, then the next day the prepaid shipper. I also think they had kept track of all my previous orders. When the correct order arrived, there was a note of apology for the mix up and inconvience, and 3 sets of the same brand and gage of guitar strings I had previously ordered months ago. There was no charge for the strings, and I think that was their way of saying..we appreciate your business.. sorry for the mess up! Since ive been dealing with A.M.S, ive purchased guitar and bass amps, basses, guitars, studio monitors, Digital Audio Workstations, effects processors, tons of cableing, keyboards, stage pianos, and thats just to name some of the things ive bought. All the guitars ive purchased from them have arrived in perfect condition, and, set up very well and very playable as soon as opened. The string height on 2 basses I purchased had to be raised just a touch, but, was due to my personal preference. Im not sure how fast the shipping would be in your area. I live in Michigan, and most things I order from them come out of New Jersey. My usual routine with them is to place an order by 3 pm e.s.t. on Wednesday,. and I receive it on Friday. 3 of the guitars ive ordered did come from Nevada, as thats where their other warehouse is at. Time of delivery if being shipped from there is 5 business days to Michigan. If it comes out of Neveda to your area, think the turn-around time would be the same as me getting it from New Jersey. I will add, the guitars ive purchased from them have been on the higher end. I go to the Guitar Center thats in the town I live in, try out as many of the ones they have in stock that im interested in buying. If the consistency in quality and playability is the same from guitar to guitar, I then make the purchase from A.M.S. I refuse to ever buy from Guitar Center again due to the unknowlegable sales staff, lack of service, and how they handle returns on defective equipment. Just wish A.M.S. had the selection of equipment that Musicians Friend has. (M.F. is owned by Guitar Center.) The payment plan option A.M.S. offers is great to. No interest for either 3 or 5 months, and my checking account is billed every 31 days when purchasing with my Visa debit card. They are very consistent in the billing too. Have never had a payment come out early or late, and reminders are sent 5 days before hand that your account will be billed for X amount. Hope this has helped, and I HIGHLY recommend A.M.S.
American Musical Supply?
Anyone had experience with the "easy payment plan" that they offer? Is it similar to applying for a line of credit, or is it different? Thanks!
Yeah, I've used it. It's pretty sweet. If you place an order up to I think $1000 they will just break up the charges into 3 equal ones and charge them to your credit card once a month without applying for a credit card. If your order is over $1000 and up to $3000, you can do 5 payments but they will do a credit check. Either way you still don't need to apply for a credit card, they just charge a card you already have. I've used it a lot. I've only done the 3 payments. Here is some more detail on the payment plans. http://www.americanmusical.com /content--id-1
Musicians Friend vs. AmericanMusical Supply?
I'm going to buy a guitar, amp and all the goodies. where should I buy from?
The obvious answer would be to purchase your gear from whoever offers it for less. This isn't as if Musicians Friend has one type of guitar and AMS has a different guitar, which would make choosing between the two a little more difficult. Since they both carry the same product, the lowest price is the way to go. HOWEVER: Musicians Friend is owned by Guitar Center- if you have a Guitar Center near you, they will match prices, and you'll be able to try out the gear you're buying. Buying guitars online is tricky unless you know exactly what you want. If you haven't played the gear you're planning on purchasing, I highly recommend doing so. The guitars neck profile may be too large or too small for your hands; you may not like the tone coming from the amp when combined with the guitar you're going to play through it. If you have local music shops in your area, I advocate purchasing from them instead of wholesale buyers. Support the "Mom and Pop" shops. They will most likely match prices for you as well. At the very least, make certain to try out what you buy before you buy it.
