I realize despair has
different denotations and
connotations, so use your own
frame of reference for it :)

and if my words are big words
to you--then crack open your
dictionary and learn something
today.

It seems that your deriding me
IS your honest answer. And
that says enough in itself.
Dirty--unfortunately, you
don't really matter to me, or
to my existence.
Ha, philosophy burn! Nah, just
kidding. When you responded to
my question that way, at first
I was surprised and kind of
hurt, but then it got me
thinking.. we all have our own
frame of reference, so the way
you saw my question was valid
to you, but not to me, or to
others. You were right about
one thing, tho, and that is
that yes, I was trying to set
up a "mood" if you will, not
because I was trying to be
pretentious but because I
myself was in a profound
thought at that moment, and
this question was relevant to
me. That was my frame of
reference, and I wanted to
connect to others who might
also be tuning in to that mood
and might share their thoughts
on it.
So in the end, I wasn't
bothered by your insults
because they actually taught
me a lesson about perspective. |

I think that in regards to
using despair to help with
despair-- aka empathy
certainly helps. It nice to
know someone knows how you
feel, or is at least
attempting to understand how
you are feeling.
I tend to use a mixture of
empathy, and brutal honesty
with friends when they are
experiencing the dark place of
despair.
I empathize with their
frustration.. and I am
brutally honest with them in
how despair is a state of
mind, and you can either say
there and be miserable, or you
can adopt a different mindset.
This goes with any negative
"state of mind."
People relating to you, and
then you throwing reality in
their face tends to cause a
real reaction, and in my
experience--- if they want the
change, they'll make it. |

To me a feeling of despair is
usually served with a side of
something happening in my
life, usually concerning my
best friends. It makes me
realize that there is nothing
I can do, that I have no
control over the situation,
that things will be this way
for eternity. I am desperate
for my friends. Without them,
I have no life and am stuck at
the computer answering
Psychology questions while I
wait for an email that never
comes. I feel desperate when
my studies aren't going well
and interims are due in a week
or when there is conflict with
my friends. I never really
related the words despair and
desperation to each other. |

How has the promised hope andchange turned into misery anddespair? |

All through the campaign all
we heard was hope and
change...now all we hear is
despair and how bad it is and
if this bill doesn't pass we
could be headed for
catastrophe.
...I would prefer catastrophe
over socialism and growing a
massive government.
