What are the essential apparelitems for snow tubing? |
|
My son (10), husband and I are
going w/ my son's cub scout
pack snow tubing. We've never
been anywhere like this
before. Some are skiing but we
won't be...only snow tubing.
What are the essentials I need
to buy without spending tons
of money for the three of us.
We all pretty much have
waterproof jackets &
hats/gloves that will work. So
I'm guessing boots & snow
pants/bibs? Any suggestions on
the best places to look? I
looked online walmart &
target...will pretty much have
to hit the stores to try for
the right sizes. Any input
appreciated! |

If you have layers that you
can wear under the waterproof
jackets, you might be alright,
such as fleece, turtlenecks,
etc. I would also bring
hand/foot warmers! Do you have
anything you can borrow? I
would go to the stores and
look in clearance, Wal-mart,
Target, etc. Consignment shops
might have some stuff - where
are you coming from and going
to, because you might have
better luck if you wait until
you get there to shop for
stuff if you don't have it in
your area! |

Essential shopping in Chicago? |
|
I'm planning to take a trip to
Chicago this coming April.
What are some stores, shopping
centers, and places to go for
the best shopping? I'm talking
mainly apparel and
accessories, things like that.
Thanks! |

Michigan Avenue (all main
shopping w/ national retailers
- Macy's, Ralph Lauren, Nike,
H&M, Nine West, Burberry,
Saks, etc.)
Oak Street (high end retailers
and boutiques) / State/ Rush
Street area - Anthropologie,
Puma, Diesel, Urban Outfitter
Armitage (btwn Halsted &
Sheffield) - lots of boutiques
specializing in women's
clothing and accessories.
In the same area - but North
on Halsted between Armitage
and Fullerton on Halsted
Street - loads of accessories
and retailers.
If you're interested in
fashion forward designers and
contemporary edgy looks - head
over to Wicker Park/Bucktown -
go to North Avenue and head up
N. Damen.
There are plenty more areas in
the city for excellent
shopping, but the above tend
to be the highest attraction
for visitors. Enjoy Chicago! |

What is the essentialsnowbaording apparel forsnowboarding holiday? |

Snowboarding is a great way to
enjoy the winter weather. Just
as with many sports, it is
important to make sure you
wear the right kind of
snowboard apparel while having
all that fun. Here's a few
quick tips about the proper
clothing to keep you warm and
happy.
The most basic piece of
snowboard apparel will be your
jacket. Your jacket needs to
perform two basic functions:
keep you warm and keep you
dry. To that end, make sure
the shell of the jacket you
choose is waterproof. Snow and
ice can turn into water very
quickly when near close to
body heat. As for lining, you
need to make sure it is
adequate to keep you warm, but
also does not inhibit your
ability to move. Pay special
attention to the cuffs and the
way the jacket fits around
your hips. You want a fit that
is snug without cutting. As
for the style, go with what
you like, as long as the
jacket will do the job. Many
serious snowboarders prefer a
parka that includes a fitted
hood; others prefer the easier
movement they get with a ski
jacket. Try a couple out and
see what works best for you.
Pants are another major part
of your snowboard apparel
wardrobe. Just as with the
jacket, you want the pants to
be waterproof. Some
manufacturers make
snowboarding pants that
include suspenders or a full
body, similar to waders that
are made for fishing. Others
resemble a regular pair of
slacks. Whichever style you
prefer, make sure the
softshell material will repel
liquids and help to hold in
the heat.
Gloves are another essential.
Your hands need to stay warm
and capable of moving, just
like your arms and legs. Your
gloves should be insulated so
provide that warmth without
limiting your mobility a great
deal. Make sure the gloves
will fit well with the cuffs
on your jacket, to ensure a
good seal against the cold
weather. Since we all know how
easy it is to lose a glove,
consider picking up two pair
when you find a style that
works for you.
Scarves are not really
considered necessary to
snowboarding, but they do have
a couple of good points in
their favor. First of all,
they can be used to cover the
nose and mouth should the
weather turn nasty. Second,
some people consider scarves
to add a touch of class to
your outfit. If you do choose
to wear a scarf, make sure it
is water-resistant and is made
of a material that will
provide some protection from
the elements.
Unlike scarves, a hat or
helmet is very important from
a safety perspective. Some
snowboarders choose to go for
a molded fit with some sort of
liner. Others prefer a helmet
that resembles a beanie and
fits snugly over the hood of a
jacket. The helmet is meant to
provide not only protection
from the elements, but to
prevent serious head injuries
in the event of an accident.
When choosing your snowboard
apparel, make sure you choose
items that will keep you warm
and protected. |
