Do you need to anticoagulatesomeone with an IVC filterplaced? |

If so, with warfarin? Target
INR? For how long? Or just
with platelet inhibitors?
If you don't have to
anticoagulate someone just for
having an IVC
filter.......then do you still
have to finish the 6 months of
coumadin that was started
because of their DVT in the
first place, or can you stop
the anticoagulation as soon as
the filter is in place?
Sources would be awesome, but
any thoughts are welcome.

No - that's the reason that
they are put in. The IVC
filter is meant to catch
emboli in patients who cannot
be anticoagulated.
People with history of
hemorrhagic stroke, who are
undergoing major surgery, or
who for whatever reason cannot
tolerate anticoagulation will
have a filter placed.
Sometimes we do that at the
start of a big operation where
DVT and emboli are a risk. |
