About "Jiffy Lube" Answer

Does the Jiffy Lubetransmission flush hurt morethan it helps?
Jiffy Lube tries to push the transmission flush on motorists from time to time. But I've heard that it can harm a transmission rather than help prolong the transmission's life. Is it harmful or is it a good idea to flush the transmission?
If done at the right times then yes it can help. That is if they also change the filter at the same time, which most won't do. If the tranny has high mileage then don't bother with it unless you want to gamble on having to replace or rebuild your tranny. For flushing an older neglected tranny will clean out all of the old fluid which can be good, but in this case it allows the clean fluid detergents to loosen up any buildup in the tranny and plugs up the internal pluming and brings the tranny to a halt, which is not good. Most of these shops are looking for an easy quick dollar and won't replace your tranny if it goes bad from the flush.
About how much does a jiffylube oil change cost? And howdoes it work?
I was wondering aprox. how much a regular oil change (with no other extras) would cost at jiffy lube for a 1998 Honda Accord. Also, I am new to being a car owner, so how exactly does it work? Do you have to make an appointment ahead of time, or can you just show up?
You'll spend anywhere from $25 to $35 for an oil change on your make and model. If you're looking to save a buck watch for coupons in the paper. They'll check your tires and fluid levels for you and sometimes clean the windshield. Watch out for the up-sale, i.e. transmission service, air filter, unless you know your car needs some maintenance. Tip: To avoid being sold a product or service you don't need for your car, take the time to buy a book and read a little. A Chilton's manual will set you back about $20 and will give you a schedule of maintenance for your vehicle. You can also buy a book such as Auto Upkeep: Basic Car Care that will give you some handy advice on owning and maintaining an automobile. In a nutshell, arm yourself with knowledge and you'll side-step many of the mistakes most people make when maintaining a car. Kudos for asking this basic question though, it shows you're on the right path to being a smart consumer and car owner.
Jiffy Lube?
Does anyone know what a starting mechanic who changes oil at Jiffy Lube make? My husband is considering working there and wants to barter with the salary....thanks. We live in New Jersey if that helps.
Will probably only offer min they can for a staring position, as a min. of training is involved. Just need to shop around for a good position, as their are lots of entry level job applicants, this is why education is important so you can bring something to the job besides a warm body.
