About "Light In The Box" Answer

How do I replace theflourescent light box abovekitchen sink?
The florescent light above my kitchen sink just suddenly went out. I replaced the bulb but it still does not work. The light is within a light box that is attached to the underside of the cabinets. There is an electrical connection coming out of the wall that apparently connects to the box. You turn this unit off/on with a switch on the wall. I'm thinking I will have to replace the electrical light box.
more than likely its just the ballast. these are cheaper to change but more difficult. take the bulb to the hardware store and ask for a replacement ballast.
How can I get around nothaving a light box with commonhousehold items?
I need to photograph some small jewelry items on card stock for a website. However, when I use the flash, shadows show up in the end result, and I'd rather avoid those, or uneven light, etc. I'd love to have a light box, but I dont have access to one. Any ideas?
You can improvise a light tent by hanging a white sheet so it wraps around your jewelry on three sides. Don't use on-camera flash; use two lights, one on each side of the tent. Ordinary household lamps will do in a pinch, or you can pick up a couple of photofloods on stands pretty cheaply if you're going to be doing this regularly.
What is the white surface of alight box made of?
I am trying to build my own light box, but am having a difficult time finding an adequate translucent white surface. What is the name of the material that if used in professional light boxes? Where can I find some? Is there a good alternative material that has the same perfect milky surface without absorbing too much light? I tried using paper, but its density is far too inconsistent and its surface far too textured.
I'm an illustrator who built my own light box. All you need is 'Acrylic Sign White' plastic. Sign White is a milky white, semi-transparent color of plastic that is used on many, many outdoor business signs that light up at night. Look in the yellow pages under 'Plastic' or 'Fiberglass' or 'Windows' or 'Glass' and tell them you are looking for Acrylic plastic in Sign White color. They'll know what you mean. Trust me. I've also made several large outdoor signs for businesses. You want a thickness of 1/4 inch. They may ask you if you want 'Plexiglass'. That is okay. Plexiglass is just a brand name. Acrylic is the type of plastic. Have fun!!! :O))
