How much do Petsmart petgroomer make per hour startingout? |
|
I'm interested in a career in
pet grooming and I was
thinking of trying Petsmart. I
was just wondering about how
much I'd be making and how
much it would cost to get
training. |
 |
I don't know about Pet Smart,
but, I learned by apprenticing
under a Master Groomer,
started out doing Bathing,
moved up to blow drying, then
clippering and scissoring.
Lots of busy grooming shops
employ Bathers, this is a good
way to get started.
As you are learning you can
make about the equivalent of 8
or 9 dollars an hour. Most
Groomers and Bathers get paid
a percentage. Bathers
typically make about 20%,
trained Groomers usually make
50 or 60%. After you get good
at it and can do 5 or more
dogs a day on average you can
make $100-$150 a day, more if
you own your own shop. But,
Grooming is HARD WORK! If it
wasn't every one would groom
thier own dogs!
I've been doing it for 30
years now, and I'm starting to
pay the price! The average
career for a Groomer lasts
only 7 years.
The best thing about knowing
how to groom is that you can
go just about anywhere and
make instant money. |

petsmart?!?!?!? |
|
why is everyone aginst
petsmart guinea pigs? I
purchased 2 and they are
healthy and great ? please
serious answers only, what is
wrong with petsmart?? best
answer gets the pts :) |

As a guinea pig mom AND a
Petsmart employee, I'll tell
you this - Petsmart strives to
create an image that all
stores are identical, and that
Petsmart shoppers can count on
having certain "constants"
from every Petsmart they go
into. While great in theory,
this is far from reality. I'm
proud of the store I work in -
our animals are healthy and
well looked after. But I've
heard "stories" about the
other Petsmart in my town,
stories that upset and
frustrate me (like animal
mistreatment, employee gossip,
etc.) Certain stores are just
different than others. People
are against buying animals
from corporate chains (and mom
and pop stores, too I imagine)
because they buy their pigs
from breeders who are supposed
to be "vet certified." But I
can tell you this is not
always the case - some animals
come in sick and injured.
Others come in marked as
female but end up being male.
So in a way, buying from a pet
store is supporting breeders
who are out to make a profit,
not really to better the
breed. Also, it's not uncommon
for Petsmarts to have a high
turnover rate for their
employees, meaning that they
can't keep the same people
there - so it can be difficult
to find someone who REALLY
knows what they're talking
about, someone who's familiar
with the animal and their
requirements. Another factor
into being against buying
animals from pet shops is that
most animals that are
available in rescues and
shelters are animals that were
surrendered by owners who got
them originally from pet
shops. For every animal bought
from a pet store is one home
taken away from a homeless pig
sitting in a shelter.
So really what it comes down
to is this - not all Petsmarts
are created equal. Petsmart's
first priority is to make a
profit, not necessarily to
better animal life. The first
two pigs I acquired came from
a pet store - they had upper
respiratory infections, mites,
and lice. I treated them and
still have them to this day.
The 2nd two pigs I got I
adopted from a shelter - they
were healthy and disease free.
All four of my boys currently
live together. |
