About "Railpass" Answer

Is getting a 3-day Austrianrailpass better than buying areturn train ticket to Viennafrom Salzburg?
My friends and I (we are all university students) are planning to make a daytrip to Vienna from Salzburg during the Easter break.
A second class return ticket from Salzburg to Vienna would cost about 93 euro (unless there are special offers). If you're under 26, you can buy the "VORTEILScard
should i buy a railpass foritaly train travel or just payas i go?
i am going to be there for more than a month??? has anybody purchased a railpass for italy only, do you have to pay extra fees once your there to ride certain trains?
Hello, It is always cheaper to buy point to point tickets in Italy. Check out the trenitalia website for prices. I go to Italy all the time and would never waste money on a rail pass. You can often times save a lot of money with the point to point tickets. You dont say where you are going in Italy but if you are going from Rome to Venice you will pay 45 euros. Most trains can be booked the same day but to take advantage of the discounts like the amica fare you need to buy them at least 24 hours in advance. Your best bet is to compare the point to point price with the rail pass price to see which is better suited for you. Donna
Is buying a railpass before Igo to Europe a good idea?
I found a Europe Global rail pass on railpass.com. I am wondering if it's worth the money? And can I just buy one when I get there or do I need to buy it online? I am planning on traveling for about a month from London - Paris - Amsterdam - Around Germany and Switzerland - Italy - France again - then Spain.
You do need to buy it online before you go there. Check several websites to compare; one year one or the sites gave me an extra day free. I think it was eurail.com I use http://www.raileurope.com to add up individual tickets and compare them with the cost of a pass. I usually came out ahead with a pass, but some trains require supplements, reservation fees, and you do have to pay extra for couchettes on night trains. One thing to compare is if it would be cheaper to get 2 multi-country passes. Like you could get a Germany/Switzerland pass and an Italy/France/Spain Selectpass. Or Benelux/Germany/Swiss pass PLUS a France/spain/italy pass. Chance are the global pass will be the best deal, especially if you're under 26 or if you're traveling with friend/s you can get the saver passes. I LOVE TRAINS!!! I've done about 10 Eurailpass trips. Loved them all. But reserve a couchette at least a day in advance!!
