Where is your preferredwebsite to buy cigars from?Thompson, JR Cigar, CigarsInternational, Famous smoke? |
|
I've never bought cigars
online before. Ive looked into
it a little and some of the
bigger companies like
Thompson, Cigars
International, Famous Smoke
and JR Cigars. Ive tried to
look into what the peoples
opinions of these sites are
but it looks like every blog
and review site is at least
over 2 years old if not older
(some from 2005). So anything
negative could have been fixed
and anything positive could
have been fumbled by the
company for any number of
reasons.
So does anyone have any
current experience with any of
these companies? Good bad or
indifferent.
A little fact for those
looking for a little info is
that for the CAO Gold Cigars
for example the prices for a 5
pack are as follows
Famous Smoke: CAO Gold Corona
$21.99
JR Cigars: CAO Gold Corona or
Robusto $15.75-$17.25
Cigar International: CAO Gold
Robusto $17.50
Thompson Cigar: CAO Gold
Robusto/Maduro Robusto
$24.95-$22.95
Now obviously theres a
difference between Robusto and
Corona. Basically a matter of
girth. But you can see the
trend there. Also this is just
one instance maybe another
brand or bulk will be better
for a different company.
But what im wondering is some
facts about customer service,
speed of delivery, quality of
packing, other items they
offer such as humidors and
also opinions on house brands.
I know thompson has its own.
Also I believe JR also has its
own what i call "Mimic sticks"
that are similar to other
brands. Kind of like the
Generic Brand of Coca Cola.
Basically the same but
different, you know what i
mean.
Oh and one thing ive been
wondering is why do some
companies Like Famous smoke
require buyers to be only 18
and Thompson says 19 in their
catalogue and Cigar
International says 21? That
kind of set off a red flag to
me, i mean im 25 so it doesnt
matter to me either way and to
save money im not opposed to
straddle legal definitions.
But whats with the strange age
requirements, does that speak
to their legitimacy? Oh and
just to be sure they all
charge tax just to the state
in which they do business in
right?
So any opinions or experiences
with any of these sites you
want to share would be
appreciated! |

All of the listed e-tailers
are well known and respectable
companies. I have purchased
from all of them - will never
purchase from T's again,
though.
The JR "mimic" sticks are
their JR Alternative lines and
are well made, long filler
cigars that are made by one of
several manufacturers.
Although a few are made by
their namesake, they will NOT
taste anything like what they
are supposed to copy. Lew
Rothman even said that they
will not taste anything like
what they are trying to copy.
Decent sticks all the same.
They do need aging, though.
JR's and Famous have the best
CS of the e-tailers listed.
Speed of delivery depends on
where you are located - JR's
is in NC, Famous and CI in PA
and T's in FL.
Age requirements differ due to
different reasons. While the
current law states 18 to
purchase tobacco products,
e-tailers either anticipate
that the law may change to 21
or that they state 21 in order
to appear more responsible.
S-CHIP sorta killed that
theory, though. Don't take the
age requirement to mean
anything about their
legitimacy.
As to the difference between
vitolas - corona and robust
being nothing more than a
matter of girth - incorrect.
Due to the difference in ring,
the cigars will be blended a
bit differently. Smaller rings
tend to have a more intense
flavor while bigger rings are
smoother. |

I want to know how big are'Thompson cigar sampler? |
|
Will if it say "Cigar sampler"
that means there samples, so
are they like tiny or normal
size?
Thank You |
 |
I have used Thompson for years
and the cigars in the sampler
are full sized. What they mean
is just less of them. This
way, you may be able to get
five or ten premium (1 of
each) cigars for much less
money to try them. |

Are Thompson Cigar Humidorsany good? |
|
If so, are their house brands
any good? They've been around
since 1915 so thats
comforting, but but there are
few and varied reviews online.
If not, where would i find a
good humidor? |
 |
They are the same ones you
will find anywhere else. I
like mine.
They have so many of their
house brands it's hard to tell
you which are really good. I
have never had a bad cigar
from them but some are better
than others. Some are
absolutely as good as the
major brands. Some are just OK
everyday cigars. |
