Who would be doing foot patrolin Iraq? Us Infantry units, USCavalry Units, or US ArmoryUnits? |
|
Would a tank commander be
doing foot patrol is what I am
looking for specifically. |
 |
Everyone does foot patrols.
Everyone unit that has a
mission outside the wire, does
a foot patrol. No significant
sources here, but i would put
money on it. Foot patrols are
a way to "bond" or gain
respect in the community. It
shows them your not afraid to
get down and walk around. It
also gives a better point of
view, rather than from your
truck. So to answer your
question, yes. I would say
everyone does a footpatrol. |

What operational terms andgraphics does the US ArmyCavalry use? |
|
I am participating in a US
Army Cavalry Spur Ride in a
couple days. They gave me a
list of things that I have to
study and one of them is
operational terms and graphics
that the Cav would use, but
they didn't tell me what any
of the are. I have the
complete manual of all Army
operational terms and graphics
but there are about 100 pages
with more than 3000 graphics.
I was wondering if anyone knew
what to focus on. |

-NAI Named Area of Interest
(places indicated to be
checked out) Willl be marked
on a map with the specific
NAI, i.e. NAI 1 etc.
-Route Recon- used to inspect
a route, traditionally for
checking for trafficability(
sharp turns, steep grade) of a
route for certain vehicles and
to determine if there are any
obstructions.
-Recon symbol is a box with a
line running from bottom left
to upper right with
appropriate unit marking on
top.
-Area recon- Self defining,
recon of a certain area,
usually to a certain phase
line.
-Cloverleaf, a technique of
recon where a team would come
close to the OBJ, back out,
move around and come back in
close all the way around an
OBJ, hence forming a
cloverleaf type pattern. Used
since movement is harder to
spot coming forward then side
to side.
These are just a few right off
the top of my head, Mail me
and I'll think of a few more
for you.
Just make sure you know the
universal basics of terms and
graphics.
They're just going to screw
with you regardless of whether
you know it or not. Is your
spur ride in teams? It's all
about gutting it out on the
spur ride, do your best and
push yourself. It's hell. I
was a 2LT when I did mine, I
think a young GB definatly
gets a little "special"
treatment on a spur ride, lol. |

In today's US Army Cavalrydoes everyone wear the Stetsonor is that only for officers? |
|
for those who don't know
(which means they probably
shouldn't be answering) the
Stetson is the "cowboy" hat
that cavalry wear.
If you don't know anything
about the TODAY'S Army Cavalry
(which DON'T ride horses into
battle) then don't waste my
time with your stupid ass
answers... please. |

The Stetson is NOT covered
under AR 670-1.
It IS worn by both Officers
AND Enlisted.
At 1st CAV Division Ft Hood,
TX. and actually many other
other CAV units around the
World. They have a day set
aside that they wear their
Stetsons/Spurs when in
Garrison. So it is NOT a
"thing of the past" and it IS
still a part of tradition.
they also DO wear them to
things like change of
commands, hail and fairwells,
Military balls and other
special events.
A individual unit IS ALLOWED
to have it's own regs about
what one must do to wear the
Stetson.
Some require that you MUST
have earned spurs in order to
wear it (be they Spur ride
spurs or Combat spurs) .
It is NOT only for those in
the horse detachment.
There is NO brim difference
between an Officers and an
Enlisted Stetson.
The difference comes when the
Hat cords is applied. Here is
the differences between the
colors:
General officers shall wear
solid gold hat cords.
Company and field grade
officers shall wear black and
gold hat cords.
Warrant officers shall wear
black and silver hat cords.
All enlisted ranks shall wear
cords designated for their
branch (yellow: cavalry; red:
artillery; green/white,
medical, etc.). If hat cords
are not available in a
particular branch color, the
yellow (cavalry) cord or the
primary color cord of assigned
unit May be worn. Black hat
cords are not authorized.
Branch and rank insignia is
worn centered on the front of
the hat. Rank is worn over the
branch insignia. Branch
insignia includes standard or
regimental branch insignia.
Embroidered or metal
“period’ branch insignia
from the Civil war, Indian
wars, or modern era are
authorized. The distinctive
unit insignia (DUI), more
commonly referred as unit
crest is worn centered on the
back of the hat. Care should
be taken when selecting
insignia to avoid gaudiness.
Additional insignia or
decorations such as unit,
division, regimental pins,
miniature combat infantryman
badges, etc. may be worn on
the side of the hat, above the
hat cord at the wearer’s
discretion. When worn as
authorized headgear for parade
only branch insignia, rank and
DUI are to be worn.

deems appropriate wear of the
Stetson you can visit
