I heard that Vonage does not need a BT phone line as it makes calls over your broadband connection, but won't I need a BT phone line for broadband anyway?
its true vonage doesnt need BT phone line to make call because it works through your internet connection and uses feature called VOIP .but for internet connection you can use Virgin broadband connection which lay the cable to your home but for this you have to check with them that they are supplying connection in your post code although they already covered most of UK.

I live in California and I need my number listed and Vonage doesn't list it. What do I do to get it listed? I mean White Pages, not yellow pages.
you are not likely going to be able to get it listed for 411... for the yellow pages, you would have to contact the publisher of whatever yellow page publication that you want to be listed in, as there are several 3rd party yellow page directories around, not just the regional bell yellow pages any longer. Yellow pages are business listings, and are paid listings, you need to pay to be listed in the yellow pages, so I do not see having a VoIP telephone provider being a problem with getting listed in the yellow pages, as those listings are paid listings. There is a small possibility that when you list with the yellow pages, you may be listed with directory assistance as well... do not forget other free 411 services as well like 1-800-goog-411 1-800-call-411
How can my Vonage phonedisplay a Toll Free number asmy caller ID when I makecalls?
I do have my own 1-800 number from tollfreelive, and I want that to appear when I make calls. I think Vonage has a toll free number service, but it is only limited to 100 minutes and very expensive.
